The field of myofunctional therapy has grown exponentially since its inception over 100 years ago. Today there are many courses that help guide dental hygienists on the path to becoming a myofunctional therapist. While the IAAH does not support any one introductory course, we do believe in informed decision making. Here is a list of available courses you might consider on your journey.
A unique, in-depth, interactive, and thorough educational experience. Experts in the field of orofacial myofunctional therapy teach every aspect of this therapeutic approach. Intended for Speech Language Pathologists, Dental Providers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and allied health professionals.
Presented by the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT)
An all-virtual course that combines organized self-paced learning with live online webinars.
The course encompasses core elements of orofacial myofunctional disorders, including history, research, dental, speech, orofacial myofunctional interdisciplinary perspectives, anatomy/physiology, evaluation, and ethical therapeutic approaches. These concepts are taught using a variety of methodologies, including pre-recorded and live Zoom or in-person lectures, videos, demonstrations of procedures, case studies, and observation of patient videos.
The Myo Mastery Program is a comprehensive, well-organized, in-depth, “A-Z” course containing all the parts and pieces, and then some.
No one likes to drink out of a firehose, so the program is designed around “micro-learning”. Small, manageable lessons that are delivered seamlessly 24/7 through a wonderful digital platform. This truly is a “go at your own pace” program.
Myo Pathway takes licensed dental professionals from basic knowledge to confident practicing myofunctional therapists. This 28-hour AGD/PACE course consists of 26 hours of virtual lectures with immediate self-study access and a minimum of 2 hours of live virtual discussion with the instructor.
Course access includes the self-study modules, 6 months of access to weekly group discussions with the instructor, and 2 days of onsite mentorship.
